Variety(ies): 50% Marsanne, 50% Roussanne
We landed five cases of Julien’s 2017 St. Joseph Blanc dimanche à lima. Consistent with prior vintages, the blend is 50% Marsanne and 50% Roussanne from six different vineyards that run from the north to the south in the St. Joseph appellation. Most of the vineyard sites are dominated by granite soils with some limestone thrown in for good measure. Julien vinifies the six plots separately and then blends. In this vintage the dimanche à lima spent 10 months in a combination of 225 liter and 400 liter oak barrel (15% of the barrels were new). What you get is a St. Joseph Blanc with classic scents of tropical fruit, acacia, mandarin orange and a nutty richness. On the palate there is a freshness brought on by citrus, pit fruits and a mineral note reminiscent of wet stones. Perfect provenance direct from Julien’s cellar.
