Energy, acidity and red fruit elegance from the northern side of Saint Joseph where granite rock and sand are predominant. While certainly not to the level of complexity that Julien’s Cornas or Cote Rotie have achieved, there is plenty going on in this Syrah to keep your attention. 12 months in 228 and 500 liter oak barrels (30% new) have rounded things out very nicely and given this a seamless mouthfeel. Beautifully transparent, moderate tannins, ripe, great length. A wonderful bottle and a steal. Truth be told this and his Syrah d’autre rive should be the wines you’re cracking over the next few years as the Cornas and Cote Rotie slumber. Another great Northern Rhone Syrah from Julien Pilon. Wait isn't he supposed to be a white wine expert?
