Variety(ies): Nebbiolo; Croatina; Uva Rara
Like the Spanna, the Bramaterra is steeped in tradition and is a blend of 70% Nebbiolo, 20% Croatina and 10% Bonarda (aka Uva Rara). The three varieties were fermented in large oak for over three weeks on the skins and then went into large 20HL oak casks to age for over 18 months. It's a wonderful bottle of wine to be drunk over the next 20 years. Soaring aromas of earth, iron, dark red fruits, licorice, sandalwood, black tea and rose petal join finely woven tannins and graceful, elegant structure in the mouth. Given its more serious and structured side relative to the Spanna, a generous decant in its early arc will be richly rewarded. Hearty dishes, rich in umami flavors -- think mushrooms -- make for perfect pairings with this profound Northern Piedmont gem. Only 2000 bottles of the inaugural Bramaterra were made.
