Tasted over the course of a several hour lunch with Giuseppe, his wife and daughter, Siro Buzzetti, Alfio Mozzi and Michele Achilli, without whom I would only have been able to communicate using hand signals. Giuseppe's vineyards are a mix of slate and stones in Castionne Andevenno. A deep, ruby red wine that shows expressive red fruit, licorice, spices, orange zest and dried herbs. Great freshness and finesse on the '13. Over a year in old botte and tonneau, blended and settled for six month in inox and then another six months in bottle, have harmonized and balanced the superb raw material. This bottle gives the impression that it will approach drinkability sooner than the '12 and with a good decant now will drink quite well. In fact as this aired over the course of lunch it gained a bit of weight, showed good power and drank beautifully. If you have plans to lay this down, it should continue to evolve well for a decade. Case in point, Giuseppe left me with a bottle of his 2009 Pietrisco, his first vintage. I opened it later that evening which was Monday. On Saturday I finished it with a winemaker friend of mine in Biella. It was just starting to show some oxidization five days later and was at its best on day three. At lunch it paired wonderfully with a whole wheat fusilli pasta with tomatoes and fresh Ricotta cheese. Only 5000 bottles produced.
