An ultra-traditional Nebbiolo. Oltre Il Bosco translates to “Beyond the Forest.” Francesco’s vines in Ghemme are located on the “other side” of the forest that separates Ghemme and Suno, the village where the winery is located. Complex with dried roses, small red berries and spice notes at the fore with fresh, lacey, refined tannins on the earthy, ethereal back end. Violet and mint notes round out the long finish. 45 days on the skins fermenting in concrete vat. No pump overs or push downs of the cap. Only wood on top of the vat to gently extract color and tannin and settle the must. 24 months aging in large, old, 20 hectoliter oak oval. Six months resting in bottle before release. A mere 1500 bottles were made in 2012. Plenty of life ahead.
