This is Francesco’s third Barbaresco and his first since he moved into larger winemaking quarters in his parent’s garage. Once again, Francesco’s Barbaresco reflects the influence of his great mentor Dante Scaglione (longtime Giacosa consultant and now consulting alongside Francesco at Luigi Oddero) and the wines fall into a classic mold. Even though ’15 was a sunny, warm year, it has resulted in wines of much greater freshness and energy than 2011 for example. Red fruits, dried mint, roses and tobacco, orange zest, and licorice are arrayed aromatically and on the palate. The wine spent over a year in large 20 HL oak botti after fermenting on the skins for upwards of 20 days. Francesco bottled the ’15 in July 2017.
