Courbet Trousseau Cotes du Jura, 2013

Variety:  Trousseau

100% Trousseau from two different Côtes du Jura AOC vineyards where the vines range in age from 10-50 years old and grow on a mix of calcaire with grey marl and argile. The manual harvest took place in the first week of October. Approximately 90% of the grapes were destemmed with the remainder left whole cluster as Damien feels that in the right vintages the stems enhance the fruit freshness and lend fragrance to the wine. After over two weeks of maceration, the wine was matured half in tank and half in 6-8 year old barrel for close to a year before being bottled. As a result this is a wine of freshness and finesse that exhibits small red berry aromas along with a savory, herbal note. On the palate the fruit trends a touch to the blacker side of things and an orange peel element shows up along with good spice and mineral overtones. The acid and body in this wine are both in the mid-range and this should drink really well over the next 3-5 years.
