Riesling from 25 year old vines in the Silberbichl and Raubern vineyards on the south bank of the Danube in the village of Mautern. You may be familiar with Mautern if you know the wines of Nikolaihof. The Silberbichl takes its name from the “silver” glistening mica-rich rocks that show themselves on the surface of the vineyard and in the glass. The Raubern is deep, loamy soil and slopes gently down to the Danube. A haunting combination that in 2013 was harvested in mid-October and is tense, focused, crisp, and energetic. Stone fruits, white flowers and tangerine aromas and flavors sit alongside a salty mineral note and exceptional framing acidity. A classic that has great depth to compliment its upfront, welcoming personality. You can enjoy it now and over the coming four to six years.
