Julien Cecillon Babylone Saint-Joseph, 2013

Variety:  Syrah

100% Syrah from vineyards in Saint Jean de Muzols in Tournon, that are 25 and 115 years-old respectively.   This is the most serious of Julien and Nancy’s Syrahs, with structure and depth that showcase the purity of the Saint Joseph fruit. The wine aged for 18 months in 5-7 year old barrels. About 25% of the fruit in the blend was not destemmed, which Julien likes given the stems help to keep the overall alcohol level in check. Intense red with garnet and purple hues. Well-integrated aromas of black cherry, raspberry, violet, pepper, thyme, and licorice.  Tannins are present yet fine making this serious Saint Joseph approachable early but with the ability to age gracefully over time.
