Rizzi Pie di Mont Friuli-Venezia Giulia, 2010

Variety(ies):  Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla

Here’s the technical stuff first. Sparkling wine from Friuli Venezia Giulia made in the classic Champagne method from a blend of Chardonnay (60%), Pinot Noir (20%) and Ribolla Gialla (20%) from the 2010 vintage.  6 grams/liter dosage. The wine was disgorged in November 2013.

Great energy, crisp acidity, fine mousse and a lingering freshness a la Ribolla Gialla. The wine is beautifully integrated and the persistence is a hallmark. Yeasty notes emerge with time in the glass to complement the fragrant jasmine and lily floral notes that are sidled up against pear and creamy citrus flavors. As an aperitif, sure. But you can take this to the lunch or dinner table and it begs to make a match with more substantial pork, chicken or veal offerings. It also can find a home when you lean towards moderately spiced Asian cuisine, as the dosage level in this wine is an effective foil.
