Varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
The Rosso del Gnemiz is a beautiful wine. A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon in this vintage. Aged in barrique for 24 months and bottled unfiltered. Supple, racy, black fruits, licorice, and savory grilled herbs grace the nose and palate on this Bordeaux blend. No sign of the oak on the nose. A medium bodied effort that despite the dense, ripe fruit, isn’t heavy or tiring. A classic, spicy, mineral driven example that benefits from the ponca soil by way of a streak of acidity that livens things up. I had the good fortune to drink the 1996 version of this wine when I was in Cormons in February at La Subida and I’m happy to report that it was in a great place at 19 years old. Point being, well stored example of the 2013 should have the stuffing to make relative old bones if you’re so inclined. Pairing advice. If you’d eat it with Bordeaux, it’ll go with this stellar offering.
