From the fabled Wachau vineyard of Tausendeimerberg. Taking its name from the word “eimer,” a bucket that was used as a volume of measurement, it was said that in good vintages 1000 eimers could be harvested from this berg (aka mountain). Thus Tausend (1000 in German) Eimer Berg. The vineyard towers above the town of Spitz and the mighty Danube river. The soil is made up largely of white gneiss, which is shale and slate that forms under metamorphic pressure. It's as if these Riesling vines have mainlined the slatey, shaley minerals right to the grapes. Peaches, apricots, and lime zest are in harmony with floral overtones. Put it all together and you have a Riesling that is just now entering its drinking window and should shine over the next five to seven years.
