From the single vineyard Sandgrube, this bottle is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tank to preserve the fresh fruit, spice and mineral character for which this site is known. Franz Turk's Sandrube vines are nearly 50 years old and sit primarily on Loess soil deposited by the strong winds over millenia. These old vines produce a wine of depth and character that is hard to match for the money. The nose shows classic hints of pepper and apple, and subtle tobacco notes. In the mouth it is complex and textured with lovely stone fruits, a touch of honey and a salty minerality on the finish. A wonderfully dry, vibrant, approachable style and a great food wine, clocking in at just over 13% alcohol. Enjoy with Asian dishes, or as a partner to mushroom dishes, Camembert style cheeses or those dishes that are often vexing from a wine pairing perspective such as artichokes, vegetables or salads.
