An ultra-traditional Nebbiolo. Oltre Il Bosco translates to “Beyond the Forest.” Francesco’s vines in Ghemme are located on the other side of the forest that separates Ghemme and Suno, the village where the winery is located. The 2011 spent 60 days on the skins in concrete vat and there was no pumping over and wood on top of the vat was used to gently extract color and tannin and settle the must. 24 months in large oak oval and six months resting in bottle before release. This is Francesco’s third vintage of Ghemme and it is a truly special wine. Complex with dried roses, citrus and spice notes at the forefront with fresh, persistent tannins on the back end and lovely violet and mint notes remaining on the long finish. A very long life ahead of it and it can certainly use some time in the cellar.
