Clotaire Michal La Napoleon Beaujolais Villages, 2014 - 750ml

Clotaire Michal

Variety(ies):  Gamay

The fruit comes from 40 and 80 year old vines on Clotaire’s property. This wine is fermented in tank using whole clusters and then pressed in an ancient press. The wine ages 50% in tank and 50% in old oak. Lovely, translucent ruby. Pretty, dark fruits waft from the glass in a complex blend of black cherries, cranberry, fresh herbs, a touch of licorice spice and a hint of minerality. Upon first opening this shows a touch of barnyard funk that blows off with air.  This wine is medium bodied, with bright, crunchy fruits. The tannins are modest, the acidity bright and there is good grip on a moderately long finish. Today this wine is very tasty and hard to resist, but it is still early in its five to seven year evolution. Great versatility on the table given the moderate alcohol and bright acidity. Don't assume because this is Beaujolais Village that this wine won't hold up against more serious fare -- it will with aplomb.  Roast chicken, pork, duck, and other traditional bistro dishes.  Of course it's a classic with pate, rillette, terrine and the like.  This wine and the Vignes Centenaires both have wonderful energy that make them real pleasures to drink. Only 8000 bottles produced.
