Variety(ies): Melon de Bourgogne
This is the same amazing winemaker who makes the Forty Ounce Muscadet and Forty Ounce Rose you have heard about. Only these are older vines and longer lees aged at crazy good prices.
The inaugural vintage of Les Vignes du Bourg. A light straw yellow hue with flecks of green. This is Julien’s slightly easier going, crisp Muscadet from soils largely of gneiss and vines around 30 to 40 years old. The wine ages for six months on the lees and one month in bottle. Dynamite, delicate aromas of sea spray, iodine, citrus zest, orange blossom and white flowers start things off. The wine has exceptional focus and is tense and rich, on a slightly racier frame than the slightly longer lees aged Braud Muscadet Sevre re Maine sur lie. The finish is long and really refreshing. While not the ager that the other Braud wines might be, this has no problem hanging around in your cellar for five years as it gains in intricacy, but it’s absolutely stunning right now. All the same pairing suggestions for the Braud Muscadet are applicable for Les Vignes du Bourg.
