Chris Newman has been involved in the Domaine Newman family operations since the 1970s. All of his vineyards are farmed organically and have been since 2005. The fruit for the rich, mineral inflected 2014 Clos des Avaux comes from the vineyards closest to the Domaine in Beaune that were planted in the mid-60s. Bright, red fruits, forest floor and a rich, smoky, mineral quality shine through. Dusty tannins that are youthfully supple grace the palate. The extract from the old vines gives the Clos des Avaux a regal air that shows on the elegant and lengthy finish. A wine of true class.
