It’s the first time we’ve received an allocation of the flagship Sauvignon from Ronco del Gnemiz. There were 1200 bottles made in 2015. We only got 36. It is a standout in an otherwise great trio of 2015 Sauvignons (Salici, Peri and Sol) from Serena Palazzalo and Cristian Patat. This is not necessarily your warm, summer afternoon, patio sipping Sauvignon Blanc. This is a serious bottle of white wine that can be enjoyed leisurely over the course of a meal, particularly one that includes seafood. It has the ability to age for a long time, especially for Sauvignon Blanc. It is fermented in barrique and aged there as well, for just shy of a year. Intertwined floral, citrus and stone fruit aromas abound. On the palate, crisp minerality and acidity balance things out. Rich, sharp, and focused all at the same time. A great expression of Friulian Sauvignon.
