Sébastien Brunet Arpent Sec Vouvray, 2014 - 750ml

Sébastien Brunet

Variety(ies):  Chenin Blanc

Sébastien's dry Chenin Blanc from the exceptional 2014 vintage.  This is classically styled Vouvray from a mix of vineyards around 30+ years old and takes its name from one of those special places (or lieu-dits).  The grapes in this wine are grown predominantly on silex, or flint with some clay.  There's not as much limestone on this side of Vouvray as in other parts of the Loire.  The wine spent eight months in stainless steel after fermenting in stainless.  A flinty, smoky, stony character shows itself in this wine.  There is a steely freshness when you stick your nose into the glass.  The fruit here is classic Chenin Blanc with citrus, green apple and pear working together.  They are complimented by a hint of telltale Chenin lanolin and floral notes.  There is definitely the opportunity for further complexity to develop as this wine ages over the next four to six years, but if that's your plan you better pick up more than a couple of bottles because it is drinking really great now.
