I love this bottle in this vintage. 30 year old vines in the rocky, quartz dominated Thurnerberg vineyard turned out a classic, yet relatively approachable Gruner in 2014. The key to getting the most out this wine is to be careful not to get it too cold so that it dulls the focused and precise aromas of white pepper, pear and subtle mineral elements. In the mouth there is a touch of exotic fruit (pineapple) and peach that marries with a pronounced peppery hit and spicy tobacco note that enhances the aromatics and lends a richness to the wine. Incredible pairing versatility with this wine from Asian cuisine, to more classic all white meat dishes, asparagus or an interesting companion to cream cheese and white cheese.
